Introduction

Sql2Go offers software development and consulting services for MS SQL Server. It is owned and operated by me, Megan Brooks, located in Sacramento County, California. Sql2Go seeks to provide specific, specialized SQL Server database development and administration services to clients, as needed, when needed.

I also offer information technology services within my range of experience which you can read about below. I no longer offer audio-visual services.

Availability (Updated 4/28/21):

I am currently engaged in freelance ASP.Net Core 5 (Azure App Service) and Azure SQL Database development & support, deployed to the MS Azure cloud, and my available time for additional work is extremely limited.

I no longer consider full-time permanent positions. At this stage in my life I am semi-retired, working intermittently and focusing on the primary goal of Sql2Go, which is providing services as needed. Short term engagements — primarily for advice and troubleshooting — are accepted. Calls and meetings will be online, usually via MS Teams (my server or yours).

Payment is due within two weeks after receipt of invoice, following satisfactory completion of the work, PayPal accepted. No charge for the initial consultation prior to commencing work, or if I can’t help with your situation.

For more information, contact Megan.

Why “Sql2Go?”

My SQL Server blog & personal website have been located at far2go.net for many years. Far2Go is  just a catchy name that is easy to remember, although if you think about it enough, it may seem to have implications ranging from “much work still to be done” to “unlimited opportunity.” But then that might be thinking about it a little too much – at the time I just needed to come up with a domain name, quickly.

“Sql2Go” comes from changing “far” to “sql.” It is still catchy, but the point is that I can offer database development and administration services to order, as you need them, at lower cost than hiring a full-time developer/DBA.

Experience

Software Development: I have been developing for and administering SQL Server since 1998, beginning with SQL Server 6.5. I worked full time as an electronics technician, systems programmer, or software developer for more than 40 years, and have been employed as a software developer and consultant since 1970. I wrote my first programs in the fall of 1968.

My most recent work has been with SQL Server 2017 (SSRS, DB Engine, SSIS) on MS Azure VMs, using ASP.Net Core, Entity Framework Core, and DevExtreme to develop a vertical market web client application. While I am retired from full-time permanent employment, I continue to offer consulting services.

I worked the earliest years of my career, from 1970, first as a paid student programming consultant, then as the department technician for the Computer Science department at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), and finally as lead systems programmer for the CSUS Computer Center through 1983.

My work as a professional developer began in 1974 while working as department technician and studying for my BS in Computer Science (at CSUS), and continued as I transitioned into to mainframe systems programming and then, after CSUS, applications programming and eventually database & web development and database administration. I am not a general-purpose “IT person” but I nevertheless have years of IT/sysadmin experience with a focus on tools used and issues encountered by software developers.

Audio-Visual: I have done audio-visual work — operation, installation, and maintenance — since 1982 when I first volunteered for a private educational organization to which I belonged, receiving professional training. In the mid-90’s I trained with another professional and volunteered for several years as an audio recordist for a local church that produced its own TV and radio programming.

In more recent years I provided audio support for two women’s retreats, served as the lead audio-visual tech at two local churches, and provided services to several others in the greater Sacramento area up until February, 2020. I no longer provide audio support for events, but I am open to volunteer consulting as I am able.

Personal

I work with technology for what it can do for people. The rest of the time I do with as little of it as possible. I volunteer for a variety of causes, as I am able.
