In the “better late than never” category… (I missed this because I had given up looking for it. Besides, I am presently trapped in RS 2008 RTM hell.)
Update (10/28/14):
I was finally able to move the reports forward to RS 2012/VS 2012 (using the VS 2012 SSDT-BI add-on), at least in development, and it works considerably better than the 2008 tools, which is to say it crashes much less often. Full compatibility with RS 2008 is maintained as long as you don’t make use of 2008 R2 features.
We haven’t adopted VS 2013 because we are stuck on TFS 2008 which, unfortunately, was integrated into the product, not just the development environment, and VS 2013 wants nothing to do with it. Someday…
